PROSPECTS AND CHALLENGES OF ADOPTING VIRTUAL TEACHING AND LEARNING FOR BUSINESS EDUCATION COURSES IN POST COVID-19 ERA

Abstract

 

This study examined the prospects and challenges of adopting virtual teaching and learning for business education courses. The study adopted the descriptive survey research design while the population of the study consisted of all 45 business education lecturers and 580 third year business education undergraduate students registered for the 2019/2020 academic sessions in four public tertiary institutions offering business teacher education in Ogun state, Nigeria. The study sample comprised 40 lecturers and 175 students who were selected based on the stratified random sampling technique. A structured questionnaire was used as instrument for data collection. The data gathered were analyzed using frequency count, mean, standard deviation and t-test statistics. Findings revealed that virtual teaching and learning offer unlimited access to knowledge as well as safe and secure environment among others. It was equally revealed that human resistance to change, erratic power supply and poor information network are some of the challenges of adopting virtual teaching and learning for business education courses. Finally, it was recommended that institutions should design and establish a pragmatic and workable framework for virtual teaching and learning for business education courses.
