ADEQUACY OF ICT FOR EFFECTIVENESS OF ONLINE TEACHING AND LEARNING – POST COVID’19 IN OGUN STATE PUBLIC TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS

Abstract


 

This paper investigated the adequacy of existing ICT structure to effective online teaching and learning among public tertiary institutions in Ogun State - Post Covid’19. Using parameters like availability of Virtual Learning Centers (VLCs), Internet and Intranet services, conduciveness of learning environment and management commitment, to measure the effectiveness of online teaching. The study proxies authentic learning, mental model and internal motivation as parameters for measuring effective leaning. A multistage sampling technique was used to sample 300 higher level students from 300 level and workforce of ICT unit of the selected institutions. Questionnaire was used as the main research instrument for the study and Regression model was used as the analytical technique. It was found that all the investigated effective-teaching parameters were statistically significant to measure teaching effectiveness. However, the availability of Virtual Learning Centres (VLCs), internet and intranet services, conduciveness of learning environment and management commitment to measure the effectiveness of online teaching were found to be inadequate to guarantee effective online teaching and learning among public tertiary institutions in Ogun State - Post Covid-19. It is therefore recommended that ICT structure for teaching and learning among public tertiary institutions in Ogun State should be resuscitated in order to blend with the new norm in the academic system.
