INFLUENCE OF UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS’ INTEREST ON THEIR AGRIPRENEURSHIP INTENTIONS IN UNIVERSITIES IN NIGER-DELTA
Abstract
The study examined the influence of undergraduate students’ interest on their agripreneurship intentions in universities in Niger Delta, using the correlational survey research design. A sample of 377 was selected using multi-staged stratified random sampling procedure from a population of 18,474 students studying Agriculture courses in federal and state universities in Niger-Delta. A structured questionnaire was used to elicit responses from students. The questionnaire was face validated by 5 experts, and Split-half reliability method was utilized which yielded a Spearman-Brown coefficient of 0.728, proving the adequacy of the instrument. Mean () scores, Standard Deviation, and correlation (?) were used to analyze data for the research questions, while regression statistic was used to test the hypothesis at 0.05 alpha level. The results showed that students identified twelve (12) items as their interest in Agriculture, amongst which are that they enjoy acquiring new knowledge in Agriculture and always attend Agriculture exhibitions, a positive relationship existed between students’ interest and their agripreneurship intentions. It was therefore concluded that students’ interest influenced their agripreneurship intentions. Based on this, recommendations included that various strategies should be used to increase students’ interest so as to boost their intentions in agribusiness, among others.
