ASSESSEMENT OF THE INFLUENCE OF TRANSFORMATIONAL LEADERSHIP STYLE ON TEACHERS PERFORMANCE IN GOVERNEMNT SECONDARY SCOOLS, GIWA ZONE, KADUNA STATE, NIGERIA
Abstract
This study assessed the influence of transformational leadership style on teachers’ performance in Government Secondary Schools, Giwa Zone, Kaduna State, Nigeria. A random sampling was used in selecting (50) respondents from six Senior Secondary Schools in Giwa Zone, Kaduna State. One research question was set to guide the study, and questionnaire was also used as a research instrument. Likert rating scale / option “Strongly Agreed, Agreed, Disagreed and Strongly Disagreed†were also used for data collection. Data obtained were analyzed using mean score and standard deviation techniques on Standard Package for Social Science (SSPS) 16.0, software. The study revealed that majority of the respondents agreed that they had responsible leadership in their school and their leaders were providing them with adequate working materials for teaching learning process. Also, their Leadership influenced relationship between the management, teachers and students. It also revealed that the leadership encouraged staff development for additional qualification which attracts a good SSCE Result in their schools. The study recommended that government should encourage appointing transformational leaders with a zeal to encourage innovation and creativity in an educational institutions by organizing symposium, seminar, and workshop etc. as well as encouraging leaders of secondary schools to carry everyone along for staff and managerial development.
